Serenity, Focus, and Fellowship
We here at the Arizona Kyudo Kai strive to embody the teachings, philosophy, and spirituality found within the kyudo. We are a diverse and dynamic group of individuals who come from many walks of life but all share a common interest in kyudo. All of us at the Arizona Kyudo Kai take great care in following the tenants of kyudo by seeking perfection in our shooting form; encouraging appreciation of the cultural aspects of Japanese archery; and embracing positive, friendly exchange between members and the local community.
We are always looking for individuals interested in learning about kyudo and welcome all new-comers to our group: beginner or experienced.
Two Groups, One Soul
Our group is made of both the Arizona Kyudo Kai and the University of Arizona Kyudo Club. Though we are technically two different groups, we practice and study kyudo together every Sunday.
So be you a student or a member of the community, you can rest assured you have a place with us!
Arizona Kyudo Kai
University of Arizona Kyudo Club
Founded by University of Arizona alumnus James Moxness, the University of Arizona Kyudo Club has been an officially recognized club of the University of Arizona for almost a decade.
The clubs university members include both undergraduate and graduate students. Our current president and treasurer are Eric and Daniel, respectively (both University of Arizona undergraduates).
In addition, our club is also sponsered by Matthew Goodwin who is also a practicing kyudoka within our group.
As the club is affliated with the University of Arizona campus, we hold half of our practices on campus in the Ina A. Gittings Building with the other half being located off campus at the Rhythm Industry Performance Factory on Tyndall Ave. and 20th St. The addressed to these places can be found on our 'Contact Us' page.
We are currently working towards including other areas into our practice schedule and hope to do so by the new year!
The Arizona Kyudo Kai comprises the branch of Arizona Kyudo that is for the local, non-student populace.of Tucson, AZ. We are, currently, the only organization within Arizona devoted to the study of kyudo, but we have aspirations of expanding our group into Phoenix and Flagstaff. In addition, the Arizona Kyudo Kai is affiliated with the Northern California Kyudo Federation. Some of our members travel to participate in annual NCKF seminars and we sometimes have instructors from California come down to visit and teach us.
The founder for the Arizona Kyudo Kai, Bill Savary, acts as head instructor for both the Arizona Kyudo Kai and the University of Arizona Kyudo Club. Bill Savary also has built a 30 meter shooting range at his home where members of both clubs shoot during special events or for the occasional Saturday practice.
The Arizona Kyudo Kai also has two assistant instructors, Dolphin Law and Sean Doran, who oversee newcomers and current members alike.
